Euro Millions winner stories

August 24th, 2008 · No Comments · Software News

14 Feb 2008.  A LUCKY Pendle man is believed to have scooped a massive £6.4 million on the Euro Millions Superdraw at the weekend.

Tesco Express, Colne, said a man had his winning numbers confirmed at the store on Saturday afternoon, and the screen flashed “too much to pay out”.

Heidi Halloram (20), of Foulridge, who served the winner told us: “He said ‘Can you check these numbers?’ so I did and the screen came up saying he needed to go to the Lottery office. He said ‘Oh my God, you’ve got me shaking here, I’ve got all the numbers!’.

“He asked me to print them off for him and he looked really shocked when he was checking them himself.

“I was shocked, I couldn’t believe it – I was hoping he’d give me some money!”

Heidi, who works part-time at the store while attending Burnley College, said she thought the man was in his late-30s or early-40s. She added: “Everyone here knows about it and a few people have been in asking us, but no one seems to know who he is. I don’t blame him for keeping quiet though – I wouldn’t be telling anyone if it was me!”

The draw on Friday night is the biggest non-rollover jackpot to date, mounting to £96.5m., of which 16 European people bagged £6.4m.

Of the 16, six winners were from the UK, and only one has opted for publicity, according to a Camelot spokesman. That person lives in Northern Ireland.

The man, believed to have bought his ticket from Tesco Express, Colne, and had his numbers checked at the same store, had a match of five numbers plus one lucky star entitling him to £6,462,181.30.

If a single ticket holder was to have won the draw on Friday, it would have been the biggest-ever single lottery payout in the history of gambling.

Dolores McNamara, from Ireland, is Europe’s current biggest winner after picking up £77m. from Euro Millions in 2005.

Dolores McNamara (born 13 January 1960 in Blackpool, England, but resident in Limerick, Ireland from infancy) is an Irish woman who became famous when she won the largest individual prize in European lottery history.

On 31 July 2005, her €2 quick-pick ticket for the transnational Euro Millions lottery matched the game’s five winning numbers and two “lucky stars,” winning her a nine-week rollover jackpot of €115,436,126 (£91,215,072) and making her Ireland’s 72nd richest person.[1] McNamara, who had purchased the ticket at Garryowen Stores, a small convenience store half a mile from her home, claimed her record-breaking prize five days later at the Irish National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.
