Hedge funds are almost like the mutual funds excepting for the less amount of rules and hence can invest in a wide range of investments consisting of debt, shares, commodities and etc. Hedge funds have the liberty to look for and equalize the possible losses in the major markets invested in by hedging their investments utilizing various ways and thereby the name hedge funds.
